My name is David L. Mainwaring (aka Uncle Dave)
For anyone interested here is some of my personal background information:

Over the last ten years in knowledge work I have been successful in building and managing internet forum conversations within the graphic arts printing and publishing industries using the Internet from my home in Framingham, MA USA.

After I left PrintPlanet.com at the end of August 2007, Steve Musselman Senior Manager, Corporate Accounts Agfa Graphics, wrote to the Computer to Plate Pressroom community: "I've been fortunate to work closely with "Uncle Dave" for ten years now. It would only be fitting to acknowledge the true community Dave built, which extended beyond these virtual walls. Dave not only seized the opportunity to harness the power of the electronic community, he helped write in practice the true "Cluetrain Manifesto"."

The following endorsements were posted to my profile on www.Linkedin.com by industry icons:

“When Dave built the forums at PrintPlanet he did so with an insight and an empathy with the requirements of all participants, whether vendors, consultants, printers or customers. As a result he created not just a technical solution to transfer information around, but a true community. I believe strongly that that community improved the industry as a whole in enabling honest and free communication between the disparate parties, and an understanding of everyone's needs.” January 7, 2008
Martin Bailey, CTO, Global Graphics Software

“What can you say, Dave is the founder of one of, if not the, most important communities people in the graphics industry has ever had. I doubt there is anyone else in the print community that has made an impact to the degree that Dave has. Dave is professional in every respect, extremely intelligent and respected throughout the industry. Any organization would be lucky to have someone like Dave be involved with them.” November 13, 2007
Matt Beals, Preflight Engineer, Kaye-Smith

“I have had opportunity to contribute to PrintPlanet internet community which was founded, managed, maintained and moderated by Dave Mainwaring. Printplanet is a number one "community type" source for connecting graphic arts professionals all over the world, and it is hard to praise or explain enough how much my knowledge, business oportunities and friendships were influenced by printplanet community. All of this because of determination of one single man.” October 31, 2007
Marko Rakar, Owner, Prius ltd.

“The entire graphic arts community is indebted to "Uncle Dave" for his pioneering creation of the Print Planet forums. It is not often people have such foresight, and Dave struggled with what at the time was new technology in order to make it happen. The result of his efforts have been improved communications and tremendous knowledge sharing. He also managed the groups he created with integrity and a calm but steady hand. Stephen Beals, graphics industry writer and pre-press manager” October 30, 2007
Stephen Beals, Contributing Writer, The Seybold Report

“I look back with nostalgia to the heady times when Dave and I created PrintPlanet.com {at DAX}. When I first saw what Dave was doing with the Computer to Plate Pressroom forum, I recognized that it had all the makings of a phenomenon within the industry. The last 11 years have proven that to be true, and it's thanks to Dave's skills in shepherding the community. Dave's departure from PP marks the end of an era, and I am certainly looking forward to seeing what his next move will be.” October 24, 2007
Chuck Gehman, Vice President, Technology, Digital Art Exchange (DAX)
(Chuck was VP at Printable Technologies Inc., when PTI acquired PP from DAX)

“Dave was able to take an idea and grow it into a massive knowledge network where participants could share, learn and grow. For us as a supplier to the industry, this was a valuable resource and network among our customer base. He was able tap into new technology and make it work for the community as a whole. Dave is also down-to-earth and willing to help. His vision, ability to make it work, and generous spirit make for a wonderful combination and an asset to the industry.” October 23, 2007

Claudia Barbiero (Agfa Graphics)

Agfa hired Dave as a Online Customer Forum in 2,001, and hired Dave more than once “As one of the first members of the PrintPlanet forums I can say that Dave was the binding force that lead to its unprecedented success! His vision, leadership, and hands on management resulted in a worldwide audience with a comradery and synergy that benefited all. I am sorry to say that the new owners have tried to replace his persona with technology and I fear the end is near for this great group!” October 23, 2007
David Lewis, President, Lucid Dream Software

“Dave formed CTPP back when it was only the hard-core geeks of the prepress world using the comp.publish.prepress on USENET to stay on top of prepress related news. Dave made it much easier for many more people to enhance their careers, and he was foundational in making the online prepress related community more collegial and professional. He has my respect and appreciation.” October 23, 2007
Sterling Ledet, Training Center Manager, Enovation

“Dave built and shepherded the printplanet.com forums from startup to a vibrant community where folks can ask easy or difficult questions and get intelligent answers.” October 23, 2007
